Week 10 – The Jog a Thon is charging ahead, the Clothing Drive is set and Red Ribbon week is coming up!

The campus is buzzing with PTSA activities!

  1. The Lower Grades Jog a Thon has hit the half way mark. We have raised over $16,000 so far or about half of our $35,000 dollar goal! Mrs. Young’s class is way out in first with over $3,000 and 8 of our classes have brought in $1,000 or more. Make sure your class earns that 100% participation goal by signing into the LFK8 PTSA Pledge Star Account. Way to go Bears!
  2. The Whole SchoolClothing Drive starts MONDAY, 10/21. You clean out your closets and bring all textiles to school. We will recycle your textiles and earn money! We need your help transferring textiles from the curb to the storage room. If you can stop by after drop off we would appreciate the help. The more help there is, the quicker the morning! Sign up to be a Clothing Drive Volunteer.
  3. Red Ribbon Week is coming, 10/28 – 10/31! Pay attention to information from both campuses for more details.

Week 9 – Lower Grades Jog a Thon and All Grades Clothing Drive

We are nearing the end of the first grading period and it is time to start fundraising!

  1. Lower Grades Jog a Thon kicked off on Monday with a fun assembly and the support of our Tesoro Cheerleaders! Flyers went home in Friday Folders, and all students should be collecting pledges. Use the QR Code above or the link button to be connected to the PledgeStar site and get started!
  2. All Grades Clothing Drive is October 21-Nov 12. Clean out your closets and donate your textiles to LFK8. LFK8 will recycle your textiles and be paid by the pound.

LFK8 PTSA takes pride in the fact that 85% of our budget has a direct student or classroom impact. Your support directly results in field trips, teacher grants, playground equipment, assemblies, the PBIS Store, and so much more. Please consider supporting your PTSA!

Week 7 – Rolling into October

Our Bears have been busy settling into the school year! Our Upper Grades Choir sang the National Anthem at the Angel’s Game. All of our Bears are nearing the end of the first grading period. We had a wonderful group attend our Inaugural LFK8 PTSA Association Meeting were we established our calendar and budgets. We have a fun fall planned for everyone.

Parking Lot Reminder

The parking lot is a busy place, but with a little team work we can make it work for everyone. Upper-Grade parents please allow lower-grade parents the time to drop off/pick up. When upper-grade students are dropped off during the 8:00 – 8:15 window, lower-grade students get stuck in line and are often late. During pick up, please give lower-grade parents time to gather their students before joining the pick up line. If you must be early, please park. Many lower-grade parents cannot get to their kiddos because upper-grade parents are arriving in the pickup line as early as 2:35. Let’s work as a team to get our kiddos to and from school quickly and safely.

Week 1 is in the Books!

LFK8 PTSA hopes you and your Bears enjoyed the first week back at school.  Your LFK8 PTSA volunteers and dollars have been hard at work in the last two weeks with much more to come this week.

  1. LFK8 PTSA volunteers were a significant presence during Upper-Grade Registration.  PE Wear, which provides an easy PE uniform and serves as a fundraiser for our Upper-Grade needs.  PE Wear is still available for purchase through the Front Office.
  2. ACE Funds, Music Funds, and Classroom & Technology Grants will all be discussed at Open House on Thursday, 8/29.  Your teachers will have a chance to explain how each of these programs support their work in the classroom.  PTSA will be on campus during Open House to answer questions.
  3. Step It Up, the primary fundraiser for ASB/PAL, is coming soon to the Upper-Grade Campus.  ASB/PAL are student leadership programs that work under the guidance of a teacher adviser to build school community.  Dances, the BEAR store, and lunch activities are all ASB/PAL sponsored. ASB/PAL and PTSA partner together during the year; however, our efforts generally focus on different areas of need within our school.  Please see the graphics above for specific information about PTSA fundraising and programming.
  4. Lower Grades, preschool – 5, please join us on Friday for our Annual Ice Cream Social!  Meet your teachers, find out more about PTSA programs and plans for the year, and enjoy a sweet treat while supplies last.
  5. Don’t forget!  All Registration and Spirit Packets are due by September 13th!
  6. Angel’s Days!  We have two Angel Events currently running.  The Upper Grades Choir will join other local choirs to sing the National Anthem during Choir Days.  LFK8 PTSA has also arranged an Angel’s Day for the entire LFK8.  Please join us for a fun game day that benefits the PTSA!

Have a great week!

Back to School 24-25

Welcome to the 2024-2025 School Year!  Las Flores K8 PTSA is so happy to see our Bears back on campus.  Here are a few reminders to help you this week.

  1. Upper Grades (6,7,8) – There is still time to complete your Registration Packet!  This includes becoming a PTSA Member and donating to programs that directly benefit your student.  Please note:  PE WEAR is available for purchase in the front office.
  2. Lower Grades (Preschool – 5) – Please read the Spirit Packet found in the large white envelope sent home today.  Your Spirit Packet contains all the information you need to get the year started.  This includes joining PTSA, purchasing Adopt-a-Books, and checking out new Spirit Wear.
  3. All Families, please join us at our first get-together tomorrow, 8/21, morning. After drop-off, join us in the MPR for a cup of coffee and a morning treat. Breeze in or stay and chat with friends. We can’t wait to see you!
  4. The PTSA wants all of our Bears to arrive and leave school safely. Las Flores K8 has a detailed parking lot procedure, but a plan only works if we all follow it. The PTSA would like your help in keeping everyone safe.
      • ALL LOADING LANES are for quick student loading and unloading only!  Parents, DO NOT exit your cars.  This includes helping get backpacks and instruments out of trunks.  When your student needs help, please park.
      • PULL FORWARD.  Please pull forward on the ramp or in the parking lot while following teacher guidance.  When you pull forward, we can move more students quickly.  We also keep Antonio, Oso, and Sweetwater clear of traffic.
      • AVOID passing in the left lane of the ramp.  If everyone pulls forward and loads/unloads quickly, we can preserve the left lane for emergencies.  Please DO NOT drive up the left lane of the ramp to “cut” the line.  This is INCREDIBLY dangerous.
      • Upper-grade parents, please give lower grades ample opportunity to load at dismissal time. Arriving during lower-grade dismissal creates confusion and blocks emergency lanes.
      • PLEASE DO NOT GET CREATIVE.  Unless instructed by the school, please DO NOT use the bus circle or Sweetwater to load/unload students.  Please do not allow students to walk across the parking lot.  It may seem easier and quicker for you, but it creates a dangerous environment.
      • Remember, every car carries a student, and every driver is a community member.  We are all trying to get our kiddos to and from school safely.

We look forward to seeing you around campus this year.  Let’s make 2024-2025 the best year yet!

Live Scan 8/7 & 8/8

Wagon Wheel Elementary is hosting a Live Scan Event on 8/7 and 8/8. Live Scan is a finger printing service for CUSD Tier 1 Volunteers. We highly encourage our volunteers to get their Tier 1 clearance as it opens more volunteer opportunities around campus. There is a cost associated, but your clearance is valid across CUSD campuses and for the duration of your family’s time in CUSD.
